Milestone
1982
  • Member Convention of the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) approved to hold a computer product show.
  • The show was held in June for 5days, and over 40,000 people came to visit, including Former President Yang.
1984
  • The show was renamed by Mr. Stan Shih to COMPUTEX TAIPEI
  • TAITRA was invited by TCA as co-organizer.
1985
  • The computer logo was first adopted.
  • The show was held from July 12 to July 18 with 172 exhibitors occupying 425 booths; 554 overseas buyers came to visit.? Later, decision was made to distinguish between local and international shows, as well as COMPUTEX TAIPEI and IT Month or the March computer show.
  • In December, in the 9th Board of Directors’ meeting, it was approved to continue cooperation with TAITRA.
1986
  • Exhibition venue moved to the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) and general public could now purchase tickets to visit the show.
1987
  • This year’s show had 471 exhibitors occupying 1,201 booths, doubled that of 1986.
1988
  • Number of exhibitors grew to 519 with 1,410 booths, and attracted 4,260 international buyers from 20+ countries, 150 reporters, and a total of 120,000 visitors.
1989
  • With 565 local and international exhibitors and 1,674 booths, COMPUTEX TAIPEI started to experience shortage of exhibition space.
1990
  • COMPUTEX TAIPEI was divided into International Hall (TWTC) and Domestic Hall (Songshan) with a total of 850 exhibitors, 2,139 booths, 130,000 visitors, and 6,520 foreign buyers.
1991
  • COMPUTEX TAIPEI became an export only exhibition.
1998
  • TICC was added as a new venue together with TWTC Hall 1, and many leading companies were invited to join.? The show attracted 16,000 international buyers this year.
1999
  • 100+ booths in TICC 3rd floor were added as part of the show venue; English and Japanese websites (www.computex.com.tw and www.ippc.com.tw) were also used to promote visitor online pre-registration.
  • The show was held from June 1st to 6th, occupying 1,927 booths and attracting 18,002 international visitors.
2000
  • TWTC Hall 2 and its 300+ booths are now part of the show, together with TWTC Hall 1 and TICC.
  • Motherboard and Add-on Cards product area was established; there were also real-time news coverage and video on the website during COMUTEX TAIPEI.?? Extra international promotion had also been conducted since it was the International Information Year.
  • The show dates were June 5th to 9th, using 2,151 booths and 22,862 foreign buyers came to visit.
2001
  • For the first time, the Taiwan 1394 Pavilion was formed, and also the show had adopted online exhibitor application process, as well as on-site visitor registration.
  • The show was held on June 5th to 9th, using 2,183 booths, and 23,306 international buyers visited.
  • Japan had the most visitors to COMPUTEX TAIPEI among all international countries for 6 consecutive years.
2002
  • TWTC Hall 2 and its 100+ booths were added to the COMPUTEX TAIPEI venue.
  • 5 Theme Pavilions were established, including IA, Wireless, 1394, Security and Technology Development Pavilion.
  • PDA download was a newly added function on the English and Japanese websites, and the exhibition halls started to have wireless Internet access.
  • Launched the Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI product award and the IPO new product procurement award dinner.
  • Organized a delegation of over 100 professionals from China to Taiwan.
  • For the first time, the show was open to local professionals and IPO, who previously had to purchase tickets on the last day of the show to visit .
2003
  • TWTC Hall 3 was used for the first time.
  • The show was delayed to Sept. 2nd to 6th due to SARS.
  • Adopted electronic badges for the firs time so that exhibitors can obtain buyer information easily.
  • Organized a joint press conference with exhibitors prior to the show in order to promote the postponed exhibition.
  • Taipei City Hall exterior wall was used for COMPUTEX TAIPEI promotion.
2004
  • Sent out invitations to domestic professionals prior to the show to encourage local procurement.
  • Provided on-site self-registration for buyers in order to reduce waiting time.
  • Established consumer electronics related theme pavilions, such as CarTronics and e-Life to expand the show’s product range.
  • ComdexFALL had been terminated; COMPUTEX TAIPEI became world’s second largest IT show.
2005
  • Organized Buyers’ Night event to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary.
  • Number of buyers reached 28,254 breaking historical record.
  • First day of the show had been assigned as Buyers’ Day to facilitate better business environment.
  • Local professionals could now register on-site.
  • Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI event logo was designed.
  • COMPUTEX TAIPEI sponsorship program expanded to the HsinYi District NYNY area, and the exhibition mascot, Brother Plug, had first shown his face on skywalk banner.
2006
  • 24 computers were placed outside the exhibition hall for buyer self-registration.
  • Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI award winning products were displayed on 2nd floor of TWTC Hall 1.
  • VVIP Room were set up for exhibitors with 6 booths or above.
  • The computex.biz Catalog were placed in the Buyers’ Lounge and were provided to buyers for free.
  • Co-organized a charity event with Foxconn during the show for the first time.
  • TWTC Hall 2 & Hall 3 exterior wall advertisements were added.
2007
  • Buyers’ Day were extended to 2 days.
  • For the first time, the show had a joint opening ceremony, Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI award, and Buyers’ Night event.
  • Placed on-site kiosk for buyer registration in exhibition halls.
